VINEYARD
Made from pure Merlot grapes. An intense red colour and broad aromas. Hints of raspberry and blackberry.
DOC FRIULI COLLI ORIENTALI
SENSORY CHARACTERISTICS:
The wine is a pleasingly deep, opaque red. The bouquet is broad with hints of raspberry and blackberry and aging process adds overtones of cocoa and coffee. Width a finely-balanced body and elegant tannins which are not overpowering.
VARIETIES USED, WITH PERCENTAGE:
Merlot 100%.
PRODUCTION ZONE AND EXPOSURE:
The vines are located in north of Ronco area, Province of Udine, with a south eastern exposure.
TRAINING SYSTEM:
Guyot, the age of vines is over 50 years and the average per-plant yield is 0,800 kg.
SOIL TYPE:
Grown in the Ronco area where the high percentage of clay (called ponca) and hillside exposition give the wines grown here their depth, aroma and persistence. Yield is 4,000 kg per hectare.
HARVEST PERIOD:
Late September with manual collection into baskets.
VINIFICATION:
Classic on-the-skins with 20 days maceration and daily delestage.
MATURING AND AGING:
18 months in new French Oak barrels then a further 12 months in the bottle.
FOOD PAIRINGS:
This well-balanced wine goes well with game, roast pork, spit-roasts and hard cheeses.
