VINEYARD
The soil in the eastern Friuli hills creates this red wine from Merlot, Refosco and Schioppettino grapes.
DOC FRIULI COLLI ORIENTALI
SENSORY CHARACTERISTICS:
The wine has an intense ruby red colour and full, robust bouquet width hints of cherry and raspberry. it has a rich body which is significantly refined during aging enrichingthe bouquet width pepper highlights. The flavour is dry, structured, zesty and fruity.
VARIETIES USED, WITH PERCENTAGE:
40% Merlot, 30% Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, 30% Schioppettino.
PRODUCTION ZONE AND EXPOSURE:
The vines are located in the town of Prepotto, Province of Udine, at 160 m above sea level with an eastern exposure.
TRAINING SYSTEM:
Guyot & Sylvoz corto. Dwarf Guyot and Sylvoz.
SOIL TYPE:
Grown in the Ronco area where the high percentage of clay (called ponca) and hillside exposition give the wines great depth, aroma and persistence. Yield is 7/8,000 kg per hectare.
HARVEST PERIOD:
Late September with manual collection into baskets.
VINIFICATION:
Destemming and pressing of the grapes followed by maceration with daily delestage. The malolactic fermentation is completed in wood.
MATURING AND AGING:
In stainless steel tanks and barriques for two cycles for around 11 months. Further aging in the bottle for a few months before sale.
FOOD PAIRINGS:
This harmonious and complete wine is an excellent partner for a variety of dishes especially cold meats, roasts, grilled meats and rabbit.
